2008, the fifth year of the New Fengshui Land Luck Cyclic Period 8, is known as Wu Zi : the Year of the Yang Brown Earth Rat. This Chinese Lunar Year starts on 7th February 2008 and ends on 25th January 2009. It is a year of creative energy, new notions, innovative ideas and full of vibrancy and opportunity. It is no time for standing still but for action and enterprise. Lightening fast decisions will be needed to make use of opportunities. It is an affluent but also a spiritually empty year. It favors the employed more than the self-employed. To maintain success, the business class need to be more flexible and avoid confrontations. It is also an year in which females will outperform the males in many aspects of life.
In the Year of 2008, Earth is sitting on top of Water. According to the Cycle of Elements, Earth and Water need not clash but co-exist. So if there is conformance, there need not be any calamities. So on the surface all seems to be well, but an inherent instability exists. The tough exterior hides the underlying fragility. The fortunes and misfortunes come suddenly and in floods. This is because the Water is extraordinarily strong and the Earth floating above it will not be able to control it. Scholars and Intellectuals will face many hardships, even as heated debates rage across the world about the present Education Systems and the radical reforms that are needed. Vast climate differences between the North and the South mean climatic conflicts. Summers will be hotter and Winters will be colder. An imbalance of Yin and Yang exists within the body, leading to an influx of illnesses. The hygienic and health conditions will hit a new low. The Health Care System will fail miserably in many countries. There will be increasing cases of Virus spread by poultry. Newly “discovered”, “mutated” virus strains will put challenging pressure on Health Care Professionals.
Unusual problems pertaining to flying objects (like aircraft, satellites, aerial weapon systems) might crop up. Extensive power failure and major breakdown on computer network are real possibilities.
The Global Economy will be unstable with many churning and turmoil. In general, business will boom but competition will be quite stiff. While quality control and employee retention will be tough to manage, customer loyalty will be dwindling. Inflation and shortage of resources along with rising oil prices will shrink profit levels. Many big companies will resort to retrenchment. Many countries will initiate systematic planning and building of infrastructures, leading to a boom in the Construction Industry. The Entertainment Industry will fall into a recession and some of it’s captains will pass away. Travels, Tourism and Transportation will flourish. This will also lead to heavier traffic congestion. Accidents in air and sea will increase. The stock and financial markets will appear more stable than the last year but in reality will have many shocking undercurrents and internal conflicts. Investment Consultants and Fund Managers will be the most sought after. The trades and industries that may prosper are : Electronics, Technology, Consultation, Banking, Jewelry, Travels, Media, Furniture, Aviation, Finance, Health and Food Products. The professions that will make average or little gains might be : Textiles, Fashion, Agriculture, Printing & Publishing, Arts and Education.
